The Royal New Zealand Ballet is a versatile company of 34 dancers. Bringing together performers of nine different nationalities and from many schools and traditions, the RNZB is proud to offer New Zealanders the opportunity to see ballet and dance of an exceptionally high standard, in their home towns. In 2013, its 60th birthday year, the Royal New Zealand Ballet will perform in 46 centres around New Zealand and return to China for the third time since 2007, performing in Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou,Tianjin and Guangzhou.
The company's early days of touring embodied the New Zealand pioneering spirit. Performing night in night out, company members unloaded and repacked the sets, rigged the lights and ironed the costumes, with local community members providing accommodation.
The spirit of those days survives, and the support of the New Zealand public remains. The Royal New Zealand Ballet is an intrinsic part of New Zealand's national heritage, and has the largest following of all New Zealand performing arts companies.
