An oil painting exhibition featuring the works of Zhao Dalu, a famous Chinese painter living in Australia, is now on at the He Xiangning Art Museum in Nanshan District.
Zhao, born in Beijing in 1953, moved to Australia in 2001. He was a professor at the Capital Normal University in Beijing.
His works were seen in the All-China Teachers Exhibition in 1987, the Great Wall Exhibition in 1988 and the National Art Exhibition in 1992. He has held several solo shows in Europe, Australia and the United States.
Zhao blends Eastern philosophy with Western aesthetics, combining Oriental subject matter, mystic ambience, Chinese calligraphy and the folded screen layout with classic Western oil painting techniques. He was the only Asian-Pacific artist represented in the first Men for Earth Exhibition for the United Nations in Rome where he was awarded a silver medal in 2001.
