The buzz: A newly opened club that sits just under Shung Hing Square, Shenzhen’s tallest building. The Café 5 club is part of the older Friday Café restaurant, so if you find the wrong entrance you’ll have to walk through a collection of serene diners to reach the hip-hop-heavy dancefloor.
The décor: Oranges, reds and shiny blacks. Lighting is dim and warm, with comfortable sofas and tables set against the wall as well as some higher tables next to the bar. The dancefloor is small but funky, right in front of the DJ booth. Some groovy design work on backlit surfaces looks great.
The crowd: The young and the affluent. We swear we saw Bai Ling, but we couldn’t see her nipples so it probably wasn’t her.
The drinks: Not cheap by Shenzhen standards, but not too bad overall – ¥30 for a bottle of beer. The cocktails are a little more, but they taste great.
Why you’ll come back: The style and the cocktails. Some impressive-looking mixologist flair marks this bar as one of the swankiest in Shenzhen.
